As a child, I had always been delighted when a dragonfly landed on me when I sat next to creeks deep in the woods of the South. In the summer of 1990 I had an experience as an adult that has stayed with me. Lying in the grass next to a lake in Mississippi I opened my eyes seeking the source of a low buzzing sound coming from the far shore. A flight of dragonflies were winging toward me through the late afternoon air. When they finally reached me they gently settled over my entire body like an iridescent blanket. I lay perfectly still as the last to land settled gently on my lips. After a few moments they rose enmasse and flew back across the lake. I didn't move til the last had disappeared into the shadows of the trees.
Turning my head I looked at my fiance sitting several feet away. He had a stunned look on his face as he said, "I've never seen anything like that. I couldn't see you through all the dragonflies. The last one seemed to kiss you as it landed on your lips."
I was amazed and awed by the experience. I had no words for the way I felt.
I've named my practice for this singular event to reflect the profound effect that the gentlest touch can have on each of us.
