The following information is a brief overview of the different modalities I use in my work.
Jin Shin Do
Jin Shin Do® - "The Way of the Compassionate Spirit"- is a unique synthesis of traditional Japanese acupressure techniques, classic Chinese acupressure theory, Taoist philosophy and Qigong exercises. Developed by Iona Teeguarden, M.A., L.M.F.C.C., in 1972 this therapy outlines tension points associated with common physical problems and with distressing feelings like anxiety, depression, guilt and anger.
Acupressure refers to any technique using finger pressure on "acupoints" to reduce stress and balance the body energy. Jin Shin Do involves applying gentle fingertip pressure to specific points, along the body to release, smooth and balance vital energy. It can also stimulate submerged feelings locked in the client’s body. Any of the acupoints that are stressed, tight or sensitive are considered areas
that contain repressed experiences, memories or feelings. These feelings
can be unfrozen and released from chronically tense muscle areas. This
can affect general muscle tension,
improve circulation, balance emotions
& elevate the spiritual state of being.
An acupressure method may be simple and symptomatic, or sophisticated and deeply therapeutic. Jin Shin Do® covers both ends of this spectrum, for it can be used both as a self-help tool and as a professional therapeutic method. It brings about pleasurable, deep relaxation and increased awareness of both body and psyche. As a healing art, Jin Shin Do is designed to replenish and harmonize the physical, emotional, & the spiritual aspects of the person. It helps the client transform, rather than repress, painful feelings - leading to a more joyful way of life and the realization of one's full potential. Jin Shin Do® contrasts with acupuncture in the absence of needles, and because one individual is touched by another in a highly supportive way which evokes the feeling of being held, cradled and safe. It contrasts with Shiatsu in being a slower paced method and focusing more on deep release of muscular armoring.
Reiki
Reiki is made of two Japanese words;
Rei which means "God's Wisdom or
the Higher Power" & Ki which is "life force energy".
Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki system of healing, taught that reiki is
a simple, natural & safe method of
self-improvement & spiritual healing that everyone can use. Reiki treats the whole person, including body, mind, emotions, & the spirit creating many beneficial effects that include feelings
of peace, relaxation, security and well-being.
During a Reiki session, the practitioner places her or his hands in specific positions, allowing energy to be drawn by the client. The client is fully clothed and either is lying down or seated. The energy is guided by the body’s own innate wisdom, treating the whole person as it works to correct physical, emotional, mental and/or spiritual imbalances. Everyone experiences Reiki differently, the most common sensations are warmth, deep relaxation and peacefulness.
Benefits of Reiki:
- Beneficial to people of all ages, in all states of health
- Promote relaxation and rejuvenate energy
- Reduce stress, anxiety and tension
- Promote a feeling of peace and harmony
- Beneficial during times of illness, pain, or emotional distress
- Does not interfere with any medication or medical procedures
Reiki is not dependent on belief & will work whether you believe in it or not.
It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
CranioSacral Therapy
CranioSacral Therapy is a subtle and
profound healing form which assists
the body's natural capacity for self-
repair.
Pioneered & developed by Osteopathic Physician John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975-1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a
clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics. Craniosacral Therapy
is attracting increasing interest for
its gentle yet effective approach. It
works directly with the body's natural capacity for self-repair to treat a wide range of conditions. It helps to increase your physical vitality and well-being not only effecting structural change but also having much wider implications, spiritually & emotionally. The resulting increased sense of well-being can help with many aspects of life.

Reflexology
Reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet which correspond to every part of the body. In ancient
times, walking barefoot over rocks
and hard ground every day naturally stimulated these reflexes. But today
we gain the same benefits by applying pressure to these reflex areas using thumb, finger & hand methods.
Doing so can increase circulation and promote specific bodily and muscular functions, thus creating physiological improvements within the body.
- Relieve stress and muscular tension
- Improve
blood supply and circulation
- Encourage the unblocking of energy/nerve
pathways.
- Designed to put the body back into a balanced state of
health
Each reflexology session is tailored for your comfort. The firm pressure used on your feet will not tickle, but will be calming & relaxing.
If these modalities are new to you, you may wonder what you can expect in your session. After slipping your shoes off, you will lie face up, fully clothed on the massage table. A session can last from 30 minutes to an hour, although CranioSacral Therapy usually requires an hour & a half. I make contact by placing my hands lightly on your body in specific positions, tuning in to what is happening. Contact is always made with care and respect so that you will feel at ease. You will probably notice a deep sense of relaxation at first. This feeling will generally last the entire session, & often extends into your everyday life. The work I do can address physical aches and pains, emotional issues, or simply help to develop well-being, health and vitality. It is not unusual for clients to fall asleep during a session. Don't be embarrassed if this occurs. As an energy worker all the techniques I use are gentle & designed to promote a deeper sense of relaxation.
After your session be sure to drink
ample amounts of water. Journaling
can help you retain any impressions, feelings, or thoughts you may wish to
share during your next session.
